A large-scale protest by factory workers in Noida escalated into violence on Monday, disrupting normal life in the industrial hub. Demonstrators clashed with police, damaged vehicles, and blocked roads in the Phase 2 industrial area, creating panic among commuters. Authorities quickly deployed additional police forces to control the situation and prevent further escalation.
The unrest stems from growing dissatisfaction among workers regarding low wages and poor working conditions. Protesters argue that despite working in major industrial units, they are being paid significantly less than workers in neighbouring states. Many workers demanded a minimum monthly wage of ₹20,000, along with overtime pay and better workplace safety standards.
The situation intensified after the Haryana government recently increased minimum wages by 35 per cent, sparking demands for similar reforms in Uttar Pradesh. Officials have initiated talks with worker representatives, while urging calm. Meanwhile, strict action has been promised against those responsible for violence.
