In a significant development, Iran has permitted India and several other countries to use the strategically important Strait of Hormuz for commercial transit despite ongoing tensions.
Speaking to state media, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi confirmed that nations including China, Russia, Iraq, and Pakistan have been granted access as they are considered friendly.
The partial opening of the route comes as global markets react to reduced shipping activity in the strait, a crucial channel for oil and liquefied natural gas transport. Energy prices have surged due to fears of prolonged disruption.
Iran has also warned that ships associated with its adversaries will be denied entry, emphasizing that the region remains in a conflict situation. Meanwhile, India is closely monitoring developments, given its dependence on energy imports from West Asia.
